» EVALUATIONS AND TESTING

Psychological Evaluations

Diagnostic psychological evaluations assess whether an individual appears to have any psychological problems, or in particular, any specific psychological diagnoses. Evaluations are routinely required by employers, such as government agencies (police, corrections) as part of the hiring process. Sometimes evaluations are required by the judicial system before a trial or as part of a probation requirement. School districts are also increasingly advocating assessments for students who appear at risk in regard to emotional or behavioral functioning. Clinicians at North Shore Psychology, P.C. use empirically validated measures in conjunction with clinical interviews to accurately assess psychological functioning. Written reports are available when required.

Psychoeducational Testing

Poor school performance can be devastating to a child’s self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. The resulting stress also routinely created significant family discord. Standardized cognitive and academic testing can assess if poor performance is the result of development, learning, memory, executive functioning, or attention difficulties. We work closely with parents and school district staff to accurately determine the nature of a child’s impairment and to craft an effective treatment approach.

Vocational Assessment and Career Planning

Major life decisions such as choosing a career should not be made with inadequate information. Most individuals never undergo a thorough examination of their abilities, interests, and personal traits. These are all key components to discovering careers that will ultimately be satisfying and rewarding. As a result, many individuals change careers multiple times throughout their life, while others find it hard to even get started in an initial career path. For some, life events such as birth of children, and mental illness interrupt the career search process. North Shore Psychology P.C. offers both vocational assessment and career counseling. Our clients receive a comprehensive personalized report that matches careers to their strengths, interests, and personality characteristics.
